Stories from the Thursday Market in Guamote

These big pigs went to market. What are these ladies selling and buying?
If you look closely, you see it is a cuy - a guinea pig.
But if you don't like this one, there are plenty more in the bag.
Here, how about this one?
A lady carrying on her back my favorite tea - manzanilla. Beautiful bright colors for ordinary everyday wear.

A creative way to recycle old tires.
More ladies and children on their way to the market.
This little pig ain't goin to market!
Oh yes, you certainly are!
Fresh tomatoes waiting to be bought.
What is this large crowd of people doing? Looks like an auction, but there is no auctioneer. If you look closely, you see cows and bulls scattered throughout the crowd.
And suddenly, everyone starts running, the crowd thins, and an angry bull decided he's not staying for the market!

Judy and I join others in running for cover. Judy is standing on the left, against the wall . . .
And I am taking pictures, hoping the bull does not notice.
No bull here - just beautiful tasty fruit.
And don't forget the chicken!
And this little lamb, standing on top of a bus, waiting to be carried to its new home, cries out "Don't forget about me!"
Judy buying some bananas.
But leaving the vegetables behind since we already have backpacks for the bus ride home.
Child care is on mother's back.
So many hats to choose from, I ended up not choosing any.
Market day is a day of hard work.
Waiting on the Pan American Highway for a bus to Riobamba after a morning at the market.
A great day at a real Ecuador market. This market is for Ecuafdorians, not for tourists.
